Sue, I don't recall his name on any documents or in any conversations or emails but all pictures should be in our photo album here on the website. I was a member of the 809th engr bat (HC) that did a beach landing on a LSTfrom Okinawa around Jan. 1962. We were the 1st Army Troops to be stationed in Thailand. Are there any others who were there between 1/62to 5/62?

HHC 501st Field Depot. Drove a jeep for Lt. Colonel Helmut Schrib and ended up in charge of all supply records for 9th Logistical Command.

11/68 to 11/69  hq&hq  company  9th Log   Samae San.  The army trained me as a Truck driver so when I finally got to Sattahip they put me in charge of a Warehouse.  PFC in charge.  I don't remember the number of the warehouse.  I think there were five or six of them.  I can't remember having much time off.  They called me Tom.

Did anyone know a Robert (Bob) Rockett?  He was an engineer and  would have been stationed at Camp Sattahip between 1966-1968(?).  He is/was from Washington state when he went to Thailand.   I found out that I was adopted at age 30 and through DNA testing and research, I believe he is my biological father.  My mother is Thai and I was born in Sattahip in Dec. 1967.  I have one picture of him and will share with anyone for confirmation and information.  Please let me know through this forum, I appreciate any help I can get.

I was stationed at Camp Friendship from 1968-1969 with Special Troops Korat Det.. The Co. Commander at the time was Capt. Blaney, Sgt. Sears was first Sgt, company clerks were Strickland and Bolda. Supply was operated by Sgt Wado, mail clerks were David Murphy and yours truly!

Served as an Advisor to RTAF Wing 2 and RTAF Squadron 224 at Koke Thiem RTAFB in Lop Buri.  It was NOT a joint use base with the USAF so it was just me and the Thais.  We were flying T-28D-5 aircraft.  Also had advisors at Ubon (Lou Meier) and Udorn (Jack Brooks).  Got to visit  with them at their base or we met at Macthai HQ in Bangkok.

I lived in the town of Lop Buri with my Maintenance Office, two NCO's a Pratt nd Whitney Rep and an engineer from Sweden company who was constructing a new runway at KKT.

Since we were not allowed to log combat with the Thais, I would go to Ubon and fly with the OV-10 outfit over into Cambodia to get my official combat time.

It was a good assignment and got a lot of time in the '28's.  Anyone who served as an advisor in the field knows the restrictions put on us by Bangkok,  so made it a little tough at times.  My friend Rube Wadell had it tougher as an advisor in Cambodia. fsmith2134@juno.com

I had it pretty cushie: I was with the 93rd PSYOP Company stationed initially in the Klong Toy area of Bangkok then we were moved into MACTHAI HQ. I was an officer and strangely of the 18 or so in our "company" there were never more than 3 or 4 enlisted. A Top, a Supply Sgt,, and a clerk for the most part. The rest were officers. During part of my tour from 01/69 to 12/69 there was one Capt and one E7 who dressed mostly in civies - white short sleeve shirts and dark ties - spoke fluent Thai but never in public and made frequent trips to Air America's HQ ...

My understanding is that 93rd Psyop had a major operation on the border at Aranyaprathet, Thailand.  Poipet, Cambodia is across the border.

A unit of officers always indicates a specialized mission.

Seeking anyone who might have served with my father, William Donald "Don" Collins, he is seeking approval for having been exposed to herbicide when he served at Camp Friendship and Korat RTAFB from Nov. 12, 1962 to April 14, 1963. My father was in the Army and served TDY with the 57th Ordnance Co. He was a Turret Artillery Repairman but also did small arms mechanic duty. My father trained the Thai military personnel in the use of small weapons. My father did security guard duty regularly. My father remembers that they flew herbicide into Korat. After the herbicide barrels were unloaded, they used pumps to load it onto reservoirs on the backs of jeeps. They then were ordered to spray the herbicide everywhere in the base, around the tents, the mess hall, officers' quarters, the firing range, all structures, as well as the perimeter. All foliage turned black and was dead within a week. My father also remembers flying from Hickam AFB Hawaii to Guam, to the Clark AFB in the Philippines, and them to Saigon, Vietnam. His passport was stamped in the Philippines but not in Saigon. He remembers that he was the only enlisted man on that flight. He had to then fly to Korat on a C-130. My father was in Saigon but he has to prove it. My father would be honored to help anyone with a buddy letter as well. This is his third appeal, praying we can find someone who served with him. Dad remembers that there only around 30 military personnel at Camp Frienship when he arrived. The commander in charge was Captain Bailey, he remembers a Sergeant Martinez and served with a buddy Danny Basland.

sah wah dee,  served with the 1st signal brigade 442nd signal battalion company c , warin thailand,  warin integrated communications station, a few miles west of the laotion , cambodian border.  and a few miles east of ubon rtafb, 1970 1971.  alot of memories,  worked as a us army 32 delta , facilities controller, we were the main relay from almost everywhere in vietnam into thailand, and then to all the air bases and other bases, also supported communications to lima 11, in paske laos.  god bless and welcome home     sam c

Dennis Freeman, I don't know if you ever received my response. I have seen pictures you've posted. Although I can't remember you, You came to 281st MP's before I left. The jeeps in your pictures are the same ones we used to escort convoys to Korat. One picture of the two MP's building a guard shack, the one on the right looked familiar and I believe the letters on the front of his t-shirt spelled Colson. Him, if him, I knew very well. I have some pictures taken from very close to the exact spot yours were taken. 13th holer. looking toward shower building, looking toward MP station from barracks.etc. my e-mail is melbris@hotmail.com;;;give me a shout some time. I was stationed at Camp Vayama, Aug. '69 to Aug. '71. Worked with Dave Harvell, Bill Cutler, Paul Fletcher and a few others can't remember there names. We were transportation clerks at amo port and checked amo on trucks at back gate vayama. E.T.O. trucks. on there way to U-tapo air base. Found Harvell but no luck on the others. One of out C.O.'s was a Maj. Christianson and a Maj. Jaquet. They were at Sattahip. We were the ones with the white Toyota. Ony one remember me or any one listed above. It was a great place to be.

I arrived in Bangkok 28 FEB 1960 as a PVT E-2, wearing civilian clothes and was assigned to USACAN (U.S. Army Command Administrative Network) to work at Thunkmahamek Bangkok transmitter site. The site consisted of AN/GRC-98 transmitter van with O5C FSK exciter, BC-610 transmitter, AM-141 amplifier, and an EE-8 field telephone. The equipment had arrived the year before from Ft. Gordon with what I believe was either 206th or 207th Sig consisting of 15 men and an officer.

As a Fixed Station Attendant, MOS 270, I was put wherever they needed me such as the unclassified CommCenter/receiver site in the JUSMAG compound on Thanon Sathon Tai. The R-390 receivers, CV-116 converters, and AN/FCC-5 time-division MUX had been removed from the AN/GRC-98 van. The Crypto gear remained in the ’98 that was inside of a metal fence compound a few doors away. The CommCenter/receiver site had an AN/TRC-24 with AN/TCC-3 to provide connectivity with 5th RRU at Don Muang. Later there was a building constructed to house the newly arrived BC-339 1KW transmitters and I assigned with a Thai technician to maintain them. When they learned the equipment I was again in the CommCenter. The transmitter site had another room added for T-409/FRC-30 and 207C. The Thais had studied AM, CW, and FM transmitters but knew nothing about SSB and servos that was in the 409’s. After about 5 days of training and 30 straight days of Mids I was told by the First Sergeant I had 3 days off. But my clearance came through and after 1 and half days I went to work inside the Crypto area.

Bang Pla Receiver site was built as was a new building for CommCenter-Crypto/Relay and Technical Control and I was back in Crypto/Relay which was not big enough to house all the new equipment so the almost empty 98 van was butted up to a hole in the wall.

I did not know about Space-A so I took a discharge as SP-4 to go see my folks in June 62.

I re-enlisted in August and stationed at Ft Ritchie MD, Detachment A, and Greencastle PA high frequency transmitter site making SP-5. Tours at Yaedake Okinawa Troposcatter, back to Greencastle to disassemble site as SSG E-6, and off to FT Monmouth NJ to Satellite school where I knew I was headed to Clark AB PI to work on AN/MSC-44 SYNCOM terminal. Again to FT Monmouth to learn the AN/TSC-54 and assignment to U-Tapao.

We originally was near the Water Plant (lots of dust from cement plant outside the base), and with a lot of work from Red Horse built a new site next to the IWCS building. We went to Djakarta Indonesia providing support to White House Communication during President Nixon’s world tour following the Apollo moon landing.

Being promoted to SFC E-7 I was assigned to the IWCS/Cable Head/Switchboard facility in Vayama several months.
